Our Six Step Lawn Maintenance Program
Our
organic
base
is a
product
called
Oceangro
and
is
97%
phosphorous
free.
By
adding
these
organic
materials
it:
1)
improves
the
soil
makeup,
2)
reduces
the
amount
of
salts
applied,
3)
provides
a
healthy
medium
for
microbial
breakdown,
and
4)
is a
recycled
material.
By
using
Oceangro,
we
are
able
to
reduce
the
synthetic
fertilizers
applied
by
25%
and
the
nitrogen
that
is
contained
in
Oceangro
is
slow
release
and
thus
does
not
volatilize
or
leach
into
our
environment.
In
this
way,
you
are
doing
your
part
in
preserving
the
Chesapeake Bay.
Treatment 1
Timing
is crucial for this application. We will apply a complete granular balanced
fertilizer rich in nutrients with a 30% organic base to advance deep root
growth. Additionally, a special blended pre-emergent crabgrass control (Regalkade)
will be put down with at total A/I (Active Ingredient) of 1 lb per acre (most
companies only use a .50 to .75/acre A/I). Regalkade is in the prodiamine family
of
pre-emergent
control.
Another
major
reason
we
use Regalkade is the
particle distribution rate of 170 sgn vs. the standard of 210 sgn which proviced a much better distribution rate than most other brands. This will give you
strong control over crabgrass push-through. To help activate, it is our
recommendation to water-in the product by whatever means available should we
have a dry spring. Your next treatment in 5-6 weeks will kill any new weeds that
may have germinated after this application.
Treatment 2
Again,
timing
of
this
application
is
critical.
We
will
apply
a
slow-release
granular
balanced
fertilizer
rich
in
nutrients
with
a
30%
organic
base.
We
will
also
apply
a
liquid
broadleaf
control
called
“Momentum
FX”
to
remove
clover,
dandelions,
and
other
related
weeds.
Treatment 3
This application is a slow-release (special-blended to our
specification) granular fertilizer that will provide your lawn with the
necessary ingredients to weather the stress that your lawn goes through in the
summer. Slow release is important, especially with this treatment, so as to keep
your lawn from burning should we have a warm and dry summer. We also spot treat
areas as necessary for weed control as different times of the year produce
different weeds.
Treatment
4
Our
research
has
shown
that
a
mid-summer
application
of
fertilizer
could
damage
your
lawn,
especially
in a
hot
and
dry
climate.
Furthermore,
nitrogen
applied
during
this
time
of
the
year
could
precipitate
certain
types
of
disease
and
fungus.
Thus,
we
choose
this
application
to
help
maintain
balanced
ph
levels
in
your
soil.
The
product
we
use
is
called Solu-cal
and
we
like
this
product
for
many
reasons,
most
of
which
are
explained
in a
recent
study
issued
from
Penn-State.

given
the
right
conditions,
we
will
spot
spray
for
weeds
as
necessary.
Treatment
5
A
very important application as we move into the fall
months. This is the time of year that seeding is most effective and it is
important to start increasing the nitrogen levels in the soil. Although our
program is phosphorous-free, this treatment will include phosphorous should you
decide to seed your lawn given the fact that we will be using a starter
fertilizer. For those not choosing to seed, we again will apply a
special-blended organic-based fertilizer to keep your lawn appealing. As always,
we will spot spray as necessary for weed control.
Treatment
6
This application is the one that gives your lawn the
great spring push of green. This is why we balance out the fertilization
levels throughout the year to maintain annual amount of nitrogen in the 4.0
to 4.2 lb range. This application is very important if you want to maintain
a healthy lawn.
Optional
Treatments Available
Aerations (one or two passes)
You can choose between a single or double aeration.
Aeration is paramount to maintaining a healthy lawn. Hot, dry weather is very
damaging to a lawn and your soil can become compacted. Areas of lawn that are
heavily compacted tend to dry out very quickly in warm weather because water is
only getting to the first few inches of your soil.
By core aeration, we are able to open up your lawn and get oxygen, water
and fertilizer to the roots of the grass. The more aeration you do, the better
your lawn will become. That is why we offer double aeration.
Seeding with a Starter Fertilizer
This
is usually done in conjunction with aeration (which provides good seed-to-soil
contact). We use a premium blended seed and, depending on the type of grass,
will apply at a rate from 1 to 5 pounds of seed per 1000 sf of lawn. A thick
lawn is a great way to keep out weeds. This is especially good for those lawns
that have had drought and/or grub damage.
Flea/Tick/Mosquito Treatment
A blanket application in your yard
thus controlling these pests so you can enjoy your outdoor activities. This
treatment is most effective using a series of 5 applications.
Spider/Bug Treatment
A series of 5 applications beginning late Spring. We can
reduce the population of many annoying insects (spiders, ants, fleas, ticks,
mosquitoes) by treating an area around the perimeter of your house. This area
includes approximately 8’ out from your house and 2’ up the foundation thus
controlling these insects before they enter your home.
Grub Treatment
Without
proper treatment, Grubs can cause severe damage to the root system of grass.
White Grubs are the larvae representing of the Japanese Beetle. In the late
spring/early summer time period, they will lay their eggs in the soil and within
a short time, the white grub emerges only to feed on grass, grass roots and
garden plants…by this time the damage is done. This is evident by areas of lawn
that brown out quickly and pull up easily. As if that is not bad enough, Grubs
are also a source of food for skunks, blackbirds, crows and even molesthus
doing further damage as the animals dig their way through the grass. Normally the
summer is the best time to establish control of grubs. We will guarantee your
lawn against grubs if you sign up for this option in proper time.
